Status is from RBI's public list of digital lending apps (RBI directory), checked 2026-10-21; it's what each regulated lender reports. RBI doesn't vouch for any app. We compare lenders available through our partner; ranking never depends on what we earn.

Questions people ask

Which loan apps are RBI approved?

RBI doesn't approve apps. It publishes a directory of digital lending apps, built from what banks and NBFCs report as their own apps. 15 of the 15 apps we checked are listed; the table above shows each one.

How do I know if a loan app is fake?

Warning signs: it isn't in RBI's directory of digital lending apps, it doesn't name the bank or NBFC that lends, it asks for a fee before the loan is paid out, it wants access to your contacts or photos, or it gives no Key Fact Statement. Genuine digital loans are paid straight into your bank account and come with a grievance officer's name.

Is a loan app safe if it's not in RBI's list?

Not being listed is a reason to look closer, not proof either way. The apps aren't registered with RBI themselves; the lender behind them is. Check who the lender is and whether it is a bank or an RBI-registered NBFC before you share any details.

How do I check whether a loan app is RBI registered?

Find the lender's name in the app or the loan agreement, look the app up in RBI's directory of digital lending apps, and check that the lender is a bank or RBI-registered NBFC. Read the Key Fact Statement, which must name the lender, the APR and all fees before you sign.
