Questions people ask
What's the difference between HSBC RuPay Platinum and Visa Platinum?
Mainly the network. The RuPay card links to UPI apps, and UPI payments to merchants earn its 2 points per ₹150. It works abroad on the JCB network but can't be used for international online purchases; HSBC lists no such limit for the Visa card, which can't be linked to UPI. Fees (none), earn rate, forex markup (3.5%), fuel waiver and eligibility are the same.
What are the points worth?
HSBC doesn't publish a fixed rupee value for points on either card. You redeem them in the HSBC India app for gift cards, merchandise, or flights and hotels on HSBC's Travel with Points portal, or move them to airline and hotel programmes, mostly at 2 points for 1 mile. Flights, hotels and car rentals booked through the portal earn extra points, capped at 18,000 a month. Points on the RuPay card last 3 years.
Do they earn on bills, fuel and rent?
No. Neither card earns on fuel, utility bills, insurance, rent, wallet loads, school fees, government payments or jewellery, and rent carries a 1% fee. Both waive the 1% fuel surcharge on ₹400 to ₹4,000 payments, up to ₹250 a month, from the 91st day after issue. Until 31 Dec 2026, the Visa card also gives ₹250 cashback a quarter on ₹10,000 of contactless fuel spend.
Who can get them?
The same people: salaried applicants aged 18 to 65 earning at least ₹6 lakh a year, or self-employed applicants aged 25 to 65 earning at least ₹12 lakh, living in one of HSBC's 21 listed cities. Approval is at HSBC's discretion.
